5 Best Drugstore Makeup Brands for Women of Color

What happens when there are 50 shades of foundation and none of them are your color? Many women of color have had to struggle with the difficulty of finding the right shade of makeup for their skin that matches both their complexion and makeup needs. Whether it is finding a nice CC cream that doesn't make you look ghostly or finding the right eyeshadow palette that shows up on dark skin tones -- we've been running around looking for the cosmetic "one".

In my own quest to find great makeup, I have compiled a list of the top drugstore makeup brands for women of color. These brands have at least 3 different products that I found were great in quality and price.

Iman

The first brand to make a BB cream for Black woman. This was also the first brand I tried for women of color when I picked up the cream-to-powder foundation. I fell in love with her cosmetics and you can tell that she has put a lot of thought into the products she creates. She also has a skin care line that helps to prep your skin before applying her makeup. Her blushes, foundations, and bronzers will help to bring out your natural beauty.

Black Opal

With the stick foundation being a huge favorite among many women of color, Black Opal has offered a wide selection of makeup that can help you fool many people into thinking you have a high end makeup on your face. My friend is a big proponent of the concealer that provides high coverage without feeling like it's caked on too thick. Blending is not an issue since many of their face products glide onto the skin easily. The Even True Collection is noteworthy for matching skin tones perfectly.

Queen Collection by Covergirl

The bronzer almost made me give up foundation for life. The coverage, shimmer, and quality was so good that I almost felt the need to stock up in case they ever discontinued the Queen collection. The foundations provide good coverage with the ability to match many undertones. Definitely look for this collection if your drugstore carries it (also can find it at Target and Wal-Mart).

Milani

If you haven't tried Milani cosmetics yet, I suggest you put it on your to-do list and find the nearest drugstore you can find. The quality of the mascaras, lipsticks, nail polish, and eyeshadows continue to amaze me. I have received so many compliments on the ultra pigmented eyeshadows. Some of their products are scented with a slight flowery smell that adds a just a little bonus.

Black Radiance

An amazing brand that often is well priced below $7. This brand had the best colors to match my undertones. I loved the powder and liquid foundations, primer, eye shadow, and their contour palette always gets high ratings. Their products often come with a $1 off coupon for instant savings.
